Influencer Papaya Ex has responded to the wave of criticism trailing her choice of attire at the traditional wedding of Tanzanian singer Juma Jux and Nigerian actress and entrepreneur Priscilla Ojo.
The lavish ceremony, tagged #JP2025, took place on Thursday at The Five Palm, Oniru in Eti-Osa, Lekki, Lagos, drawing attention for its star-studded guest list and opulent setting.
Papaya Ex, who showed up in a custom-made dress featuring a bold image of the groom on her chest, sparked mixed reactions online. Addressing the backlash, she defended her outfit as a statement piece and revealed it cost a staggering ₦4.5 million.
Papaya caused a stir online after showing up in a custom dress that featured printed images of the couple.
While Priscilla’s photo was placed around her waist, Juma Jux’s image appeared prominently on her chest — a design choice that sparked mixed reactions from social media users.
During the event, Priscilla jokingly called out Papaya over the placement of her husband’s photo.
“You put my husband for chest,” she said.
Papaya, laughing, responded, “I am sorry baby, I love you,” adding that her intentions were pure.
In a recent interview with content creator Egungun of Lagos, Papaya Ex explained why she placed the picture on her chest.
She said she didn’t mean any harm and believed the placement was appropriate.
“Nigerians like to sexualise everything,” she said.
“If I had put the picture somewhere else, they would still complain that it’s close to my coochie.”
She added, “When they told me it isn’t supposed to be here, I was like I’m very sorry. I even had to tell the wife, ‘you know I love you, I won’t do something [disrespectful]’ and she said she understands.”
Papaya also revealed that the outfit cost her N4.5 million to make.
