A Nigerian man, who recently lost his pregnant wife due to the inability to pay a ₦500,000 hospital deposit, has opened up about the deep void her death has left in his life.
The tragic passing of Akinbobola Folajimi sparked widespread outrage on social media, with many questioning the state of emergency healthcare in the country. In response, the Lagos State Government has launched an investigation into the incident, which has continued to stir intense public debate.
In an emotional interview with the BBC, the grieving husband described his wife’s death as a nightmare. He revealed that they had only completed the introduction phase of their relationship, with plans for a formal wedding already underway before tragedy struck.
“I don’t regret the decision of not using a hospital. We planned to get married this year—only the introduction had been done,” he said, explaining that their two children had also been delivered outside the hospital system.
