Nollywood actress and filmmaker Mercy Aigbe has revealed that she recently apologised to her daughter, Michelle, for the strict and, at times, harsh upbringing she received.
Speaking during a recent press interview, the actress shared a heartfelt moment:
“Three days ago, I had to send her an apology text,” Mercy said. “I told her, ‘I’m sorry. You might think the upbringing I gave you was hard.’ And yes, it was. I won’t lie—it was harsh. But I raised a vessel for God.”
Mercy went on to reflect on a particularly emotional incident that underscored the strain in their relationship. She recalled trying to reach Michelle, who didn’t return her call. Concerned, she contacted her daughter through a mutual friend. When Michelle eventually responded, her words were deeply affecting—she told her mother she had been traumatized, referencing a specific memory of being hit with a bucket.
Despite the challenges, Mercy expressed gratitude for how her daughter turned out and acknowledged the importance of open dialogue and healing within their relationship.
The film “My Mother Is a Witch” explores themes of family trauma, buried secrets, and the pursuit of forgiveness, which resonates with Mercy’s real-life experience.
The movie, set for release on May 23, stars Mercy Aigbe, Efe Irele, Timini Egbuson, and Neo Akpofure, and is produced by Anthill Studios in collaboration with Frame Flix HQ.
