Seasoned Yoruba actress Iya-Ibeji Omoarayele has opened up about her past, including how she met her husband and the emotional challenges that led her to step away from the movie industry.
In a heartfelt interview shared on Kunleafod TV’s official YouTube channel, the actress recounted how her love story began. She revealed that she developed feelings for her class teacher, who later rented a room in her father’s house. Their bond grew stronger from that point, and the relationship eventually blossomed into marriage.
Speaking further, Iya Ibeji also touched on the devastating loss of her only child two years ago. She described the pain and suffering she has endured since the tragedy, which played a major role in her decision to quit acting.
Her emotional revelations gave fans a rare glimpse into the personal struggles behind her public persona, shedding light on the human side of a beloved industry veteran.
“It started as admiration,” she explained. “I was young and curious, and he was always respectful. When he became a tenant, we grew closer, and things changed.”
Her confession has ignited debate online, with many questioning the ethics of a teacher-student relationship, while others argue that such stories reflect deeper issues within society regarding boundaries and authority.
In her statement, she said, “My husband was the one who introduced me to film making. When I was a student in school, my husband was my teacher before we got married. He was the first actor in our school at that time, and he taught me how to act in movies. I had interest in my teacher, we started dating when he rented a room in my dad’s house.”
