Multi-award-winning Nigerian actress Mercy Aigbe has opened up in a rare and emotional revelation, sharing the unfiltered truth about life as a single mother.
Appearing on the latest episode of Real Talk with Kike, Mercy spoke candidly about the emotional, financial, and psychological challenges she has faced while raising her children alone.
“Draining,” she described it. “I don’t wish single motherhood on anyone.”
Far from the glitz of movie sets and red carpet glamour, Mercy revealed a deeply personal reality—one where she has had to play the role of both father and mother. From providing care and protection to instilling discipline and constantly praying, her journey has been one of resilience.
With emotion in her voice, she confessed that her firmness with her children stems not from harshness, but from a deep fear of failing them.
She said her worst times were based on fear of judgment that people would mock her children because they were being raised by a single mom. “I didn’t want people to say, ‘What do you expect? A single mother raised them,” she said.
But despite it all, she calls single mothers “heroes,” tipping her hat to their grit while admitting it left her exhausted and depleted. Despite the outcry from the public regarding her personal life, Mercy’s honest revelations strike a chord in many, revealing the everyday sacrifices of single mothers in silence.
