Professor Shola Fosudo, a veteran Yoruba film actor and respected lecturer at Lagos State University (LASU), has opened up about why he stepped away from active acting to pursue a career in academia.
In a recent interview shared on the official YouTube channel of Oyinmomo TV, the seasoned actor revealed that he made the transition despite a significant pay cut. At the time, he was earning ₦200,000 as an actor, but he accepted a lecturer position that offered just ₦5,000.
Fosudo explained that his decision was driven by a long-term vision and passion for education, rather than immediate financial gain. He emphasized the value he found in shaping minds and contributing to academic development, a journey that has now brought him remarkable accomplishments as a professor.
According to Shola Fosudo, he said, “When I got a job offer at the university, I had already done some movies that went viral at the time. I was making 200,000 naira as an actor, but I got a lecturer job offer with a 5,000 naira salary. I accepted the job offer with the salary because I believed that I was destined to work at the university. I have achieved a lot of success as a lecturer because most of my students are now in America, London, Germany, and France, and they are all doing very well in life at the moment, and I’m very proud of them.”
