Popular Yoruba actor and producer, Obatidey Kelvin, has opened up about a deeply emotional experience that occurred during the filming of one of his movies.
In an interview on the official YouTube channel of Oyinmomo TV, Kelvin recalled a heartbreaking moment that tested his resilience and dedication to his craft.
“The day I started shooting the movie was the saddest day of my life,” he revealed. “Just as I was about to begin acting, my brother called to tell me he had been involved in an accident. He said there were 24 people in the vehicle, and 21 of them died.”
Despite the devastating news, Kelvin made the difficult decision to continue with the production, holding back his emotions to maintain his professionalism.
He also took a moment to express profound appreciation for renowned filmmaker Okiki Afolayan, praising him for his unwavering support and guidance throughout his journey in the industry.
“I wondered if I could even go on with the shoot. After each scene, I’d step aside to check how he was faring. I didn’t tell anyone.”
For an entire day, Kelvin continued filming in silence, masking his inner pain from the crew and cast. It wasn’t until the end of the first day that he revealed the situation.
“After Day 1, I explained everything to the director and he said, ‘and you kept acting?’ and I said yes.”
